GRAI launches campaign helping parents to spot the signs of underage gambling
The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI), in partnership with HSE Addiction Services, launched a national public awareness campaign and published guidance to help parents recognise signs of underage gambling, how to talk to children about gambling, and where to seek help. The campaign runs across video on demand, radio, digital audio and social media and highlights research by the ESRI that children who gamble are twice as likely as adults to develop a gambling problem. The notice also references the Gambling Regulation Act 2024 and forthcoming commencement of its child protection provisions.

The UK Gambling Commission announced a regulatory settlement requiring Petfre (Gibraltar) Limited, operator of betfred.com, to pay £900,000 after an investigation found social responsibility failures in its policies and procedures related to identifying and acting on indicators of harm. Failures included insufficient automated monitoring of spend and time, lack of immediate automated action when strong indicators were identified, and a review process that prevented further reviews for seven days, resulting in at least one consumer losing £17,900 within 24 hours.
